How to create 9 Videos in 8 Hours at a Vancouver Video Production

Corey Ogilvie

"The challenge was to make the shoot efficient without making it feel rushed or compromising the quality of the final content."

When Rock Dental Clinic in Vancouver, Canada, approached Truth & Beauty Video Production, they had an ambitious content list. The original expectation was that the shoot could take 10–12 hours, but we wanted to see how much content we could realistically produce without sacrificing quality. In a single eight-hour production day, we completed six vertical social media ads, one testimonial video, one video business card and one banner video for the clinic’s website. The key was not rushing through the production, but designing the shoot so that multiple things could happen at the same time.

The Challenge: Maximum Content in a Single Shoot

Producing nine finished video assets in one day is an ambitious target, particularly when several of those videos require interviews, B-roll, lighting setups and different types of footage. The challenge was to make the shoot efficient without making it feel rushed or compromising the quality of the final content. Rather than treating each video as its own individual production, we looked at how the same shoot could generate a library of footage that could be repurposed across multiple deliverables. This approach allowed us to capture substantially more content while keeping the production day within eight hours.

For a business like a dental clinic, this approach is particularly valuable because there are many different stories to tell. The same production can introduce the doctors, demonstrate the clinic’s environment, answer common patient questions, create testimonials and produce short-form advertising content. Instead of paying for separate shoots every time the clinic needs another piece of content, one well-planned production day can create enough material to support a marketing campaign for months. That makes video production a much more practical investment for businesses that need a steady stream of content.

Three Cameras Working at the Same Time

One of the biggest reasons we were able to accomplish so much in eight hours was by having multiple cameras working simultaneously. We used a RED KOMODO for cinematic B-roll of the clinic, a Sony FX3 for interviews and a Sony A7S4 for high-quality photography. Rather than having the entire crew stop whenever one camera setup was being prepared, we could divide the work and keep capturing content throughout the day.

For example, while the interview setup was being prepared in one room, we could have another camera operator filming B-roll somewhere else in the clinic. This meant that valuable production time was not lost while waiting for a lighting setup, talent or location to become available. It also allowed us to capture authentic moments that might otherwise have been missed if everyone was focused on a single camera. Efficient video production is often less about moving faster and more about making sure there is always something productive happening.

Planning the Script Before the Shoot

One of the most important efficiency improvements happened before we even arrived at the dental clinic. We worked with the client to confirm the scripts ahead of the shoot day rather than trying to figure out the messaging while cameras were already rolling. This required some coaching because the initial scripts were too long for the intended social media advertisements.

Long scripts can create problems on a production day. People have difficulty remembering them, performances can become stiff and recording multiple takes can consume a significant amount of time. We helped the client refine the scripts so that the messaging was concise, conversational and appropriate for the intended video format. By doing that work in advance, we arrived on set with a much clearer understanding of what needed to be captured.

Using a Teleprompter to Keep Things Moving

Once the scripts were finalized, we used a teleprompter during the interviews and direct-to-camera pieces. This allowed the business owners to deliver longer messages without having to memorize every word. More importantly, it allowed them to focus on how they were communicating rather than worrying about whether they would forget the next sentence.

A teleprompter can be particularly useful for business owners who are excellent at running their companies but are not professional presenters. They already know their subject matter; the production challenge is simply helping them communicate that knowledge clearly and naturally on camera. By combining a properly edited script with a teleprompter and coaching, we were able to get strong performances without spending hours repeating lines from memory.

Creating Six Vertical Ads From One Production

A major part of the production was creating six vertical advertisements designed for social media. Vertical video has become an essential format for platforms such as Instagram, and businesses need content that is designed for the way people actually consume video on their phones. Rather than simply cropping a horizontal commercial into a vertical frame, we planned the shots and compositions specifically with vertical video in mind.

Each advertisement needed to communicate quickly because social media audiences make decisions about whether to keep watching within seconds. That meant getting to the point, using strong visuals and structuring the messaging around a clear benefit or reason to care. By capturing multiple variations of B-roll and interview material during the same production, we had the flexibility to create several distinct advertisements instead of making six versions of essentially the same video.

Building More Than Just Social Media Ads

The six vertical ads were only part of what we produced during the eight-hour shoot. We also created a testimonial video, giving prospective patients the opportunity to hear directly from someone who had experienced the clinic’s services. Testimonials can be particularly powerful for healthcare businesses because choosing a dental practice involves a significant amount of trust.

We also produced a video business card and a banner video for the Rock Dental Clinic website. These pieces serve different purposes, but they could all be created from the same carefully planned production day. The result was a diverse collection of video assets rather than a single finished commercial. This is one of the approaches Truth & Beauty Video Production uses to help businesses get more value from their video production budget.

Why Efficiency Matters in Video Production

A video shoot does not necessarily become better simply because it takes longer. In fact, inefficient production can result in a significant amount of a client’s budget being spent on setup time, waiting around and unnecessary repetition. Good production planning means identifying potential bottlenecks before the shoot and designing the day so that they do not slow everything down.

The Rock Dental Clinic project demonstrates what can happen when pre-production, equipment and crew workflow are all working together. Scripts were refined before the shoot, a teleprompter reduced retakes, multiple cameras captured different types of content simultaneously and the deliverables were planned before production began. These decisions allowed us to spend more of the eight-hour day actually creating content rather than figuring out what to do next.

The Results: Video That Generated a Strong ROI

The production itself was successful because we were able to deliver an unusually large amount of content in a single day, but the real measure of success was what happened after the videos were put to work. Rock Dental Clinic reported a very large return on its Instagram and LinkedIn advertising spend using the video content. For a local dental practice, that kind of result demonstrates the potential value of video when it is used not simply as a branding exercise, but as part of an active customer acquisition strategy.

Rock Dental Clinic is a leading dental practice in its community, and building trust with prospective patients is an important part of attracting new clientele. People want to know who their dentist is, what the clinic feels like and whether they can trust the people providing their care. Video provides an opportunity to communicate that personality and credibility in a way that static advertising often cannot. When the production quality is combined with a clear marketing objective, the result can be content that contributes directly to business growth.

The Real Value of an Efficient Video Shoot

The biggest lesson from the Rock Dental Clinic production is that a successful video shoot is not necessarily about producing one perfect video. It is about thinking strategically about how one production day can create a complete content ecosystem for a business. By planning the scripts, using multiple cameras, capturing both photography and video, and designing content for different platforms, we were able to turn eight hours of production into nine distinct marketing assets.

For businesses considering corporate video production, social media advertising or a new website video, the question should not simply be, “How much does a video shoot cost?” A better question is, “How much valuable content can we create from one shoot?” With the right strategy, a single production day can generate weeks or months of content, provide assets for multiple marketing channels and potentially deliver a much stronger return on the original production investment. That’s exactly what we set out to accomplish for Rock Dental Clinic—and in eight hours, we were able to create a substantial library of professional video content designed to help the business grow.
